The Official "News"
Ding Dongs - the Hostess Ding Dong or the Dolly Madison Red Zinger cake is the official dessert. Tie each individual packaged cake with red and purple ribbon and stack them on a plate to make a towering cake. Bubbles - Blown by Red & Pink Hatters at gatherings for celebration, in place of applause or just because we want to!· Brim Brushing - We hatters love to hug, but with those wonderful big gaudy hats, it can be hard to do. So we brim brush! Reach out to hug your fellow hatter gently, only allowing your hat brims to touch. Air Kissing or A Hollywood Kiss Kiss is a perfect accompaniment to Brim Brushing! · Kazoos - Started by Brenda/HillbillieBelle of the The Scarlett Hummers & chosen as the official instrument of the R.H.S. by our E.Q.M. for its ease to play, small enough to carry in your purse, no practice needed & it sounds funny! Songs kazooed are "Hail to the Queen", "Happy Birthday" or any song you want! · E.Q.M. Sue Ellen Cooper - Our Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper is the creative lady who gave a lovely Red Hat & the “Warning” poem by Jenny Joseph, to a few of her friends turning 50 as a gift from which the Red Hat Society began.· HatQuarters - The head office of the Red Hat Society in Fullerton, California where our E.Q.M. and team works and plays!· Dessert First - Since the RHS chapters gather for fun, frolic & laughter, it only makes sense that the scrumptious dessert should be eaten first! After all, we deserve it! Coronation - Ritual of inducting the chapter Queen into her self-proclaimed royalty title of Queendomship! Coronations have been known to include crowns, scepters, royal robes, flowers, bubbles, music etc.! Reduation- The term RED-uation is a ceremony performed when a Pink Hat member turns the BIG 50 & Red-uates to now wear the official Red Hat. Pink Hatters of the R.H.S. are ladies under 50 who wear Pink Hats & Lavender · Regalia! The very first Pink Hatter Queen was Glenda Brock of San Antonio, TX . The vows and pledge were begun by Val, F.Q.M. (Founding Queen Mother) of the Austin-tatious Red Hat Chapter to initiate each of their members. The vows were originally fashioned from the "Statement of Purpose" written by E.Q.M. Sue Ellen Cooper. Each Queen along the way has added a little personality of her own to make the vows fit her chapter. HATtitude: that special state of being a Red Hatter. It involves humor, spunk, friendliness, and a certain disregard for the expectations of others. Chapterette: an affectionate term for a member of a Red Hat chapter Tea Tramping: playing at others events.
Make plans with your Red Hat group to go out to afternoon tea, or host a lovely afternoon tea in your home. If you are in need of recipes or theme ideas, or want some help finding a tea room, be sure to check www.TheTeaHouseTimes.com. Did you know that afternoon tea is also known as low tea and not High Tea? That is right; high tea is actually a supper time tradition including tea to drink and served at a high time of day and at higher tables. Afternoon tea is served earlier on lower tables (such as coffee or tea table style).
Did you know that The Tea House Times is "the" publication for tea fanciers around the world and they spotlight the Red Hat Society in all their publications? Fabulous!

Get Ready to Go Red!
National Wear Red Day is February 4th, and once again, we're teaming up with the American Heart Association to promote it! We honor this day by wearing our Red or Pink hats with a bright red dress! We go red because of our commitment to our mission statement: we believe in making sure that every one of our Members is educated on heart health, so we can all have more fun, and have fun longer! And after all, we are the RED Hat Society! Our campaign is international, and we are working with AHA to help promote heart health worldwide. To find out more about Go Red For Women and National Wear Red Day, visit www.goredforwomen.org
Each year, the Red Hat Society creates a theme to make our year fun and exciting. The theme for 2012 is "the stars among us." Why you may ask? Because the team at Hatquarters truly believes that the brightest of stars and true celebrities are found in our Membership! That's right, the Entertainment industry only wishes they had the kind of star quality our Members radiate! Not to mention the fact that a star sparkles almost as bright as one of our Members in her blingiest bling! We hope you will visit our website frequently and open every email you receive to see how the theme will be unveiled with you in the starring role
