This is our story......
The Sassy Red Hat Chicks of Hephzibah, Ga, Chapter 59241, official chapter and charter, was founded during the Juneteeth celebration in June 2005. Joyce, her sister Brenda, myself, Eunice, and Barbara were sitting around the kitchen table discussing the event and good times we had. Joyce asked her sister, Brenda, to tell us about the her group "Sassy Red Hat Chicks" in Virginia. We all listened to her "show and tell" about her group. We looked at the "Charter", pictures, events, hostess calendar, outings guidelines and telephone tree. Queen Mother Brenda started talking with much excitement about the "Red Hat Ladies".
I had seen them around town in Augusta, Georgia- movies, lunch, shopping wearing their "red and purple" but did not really know how to get started. Brenda began to tell her story. Soon, Joyce, Barbara, and myself (Eunice) were all excited about this "Red Hat" thing. Joyce suggested the name of our chapter and that if I get the chapter started and she would find the "ladies".
I charted the chapter on 23 June 05. I became the Queen Mother and Joyce became the Vice Mother. We had three people registered until August 2005.
We had our first official organization meeting in August 2005 and began the chapter with vim and vigor. Our chapter began to grow and now we have a core group of 8-10. Most of the members are working and get the organizational" frame work. The monthly hostess calendar was started. We "branded" the group. We started our traditions and selected royal titles. Queen Mother has given many royal titles to some members: "The Rose,"Divine Diva", "HairDresser to the Stars", "Madam D", and "Duchess". At one time we had over 20 members. Membership settled into the core group we have today.
Our first outing was October 2005 with a tour of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum in downtown Augusta and lunch in North Augusta, SC. We had wonderful tour. We have gone forward with many great adventures!!!!! We have assisted with start -up of several local chapters in the area:
